Accountancy career

    Hi all,
I am looking for some advice please. I am currently working as an engineer. After 5 years in this role, I am looking at a complete change of career. I am very interested in becoming an accountant. I am currently looking at applying for the ICAI's Elevation Programme.
At the moment I am doing all my research about accountancy before I leap into the study.

Apart from the long path of study ahead of me, I guess I am looking for your opinion on:
    • Does anybody recommend the ICAI's elevation programme?
    • Will I find it pretty tough getting a trainee accountant role in the near future? To fully qualify as a chartered acc, i need 3 years work experience in a firm.
    • Am I too old at the age of 27 to starting down this path?
    All answers much appreciated. :)
    Thanks.

Definitely not. If you can afford to be a student/trainee then go for it!

You'd really have to have gone through the programme tbh and because it's new....

Pretty tough but not impossible. AFAIK under the Elevation Programme you can do your work experience in whatever industry your in, as long as you have a CA training manager. Doesn't have to be in a firm.

Not at all. However if you go down the accountancy firm trainee route you should be prepared for a huge decrease in pay and / or living standards tbh.
