Backing Up my laptop

After a couple of scares lately, I've become paranoid about my laptop not being "backed up". Technophobe here so really don't know where to start

1) Whats the best way of going about this? (ie. External hard drive? What brands etc.?)

2) Is there a way of backing up just new files, rather than performing an entire back up every time you do it?

Would appreciate any advice thanks

Personally I just burn the files i need to disc.If you have a lot of data to back up regularly an external HDD would be handy but also bear in mind that the external drive can also go tits.

You can also get software that automatically backs up for you and probaly get a free open source one.Will have a look and get bnack to you,
