Boardman Team buying experiences

So, a friend is doing the bike to work scheme thing, and I've talked him into buying a proper bike (he lives 5 mins from Stocking Lane).

He's a bit restricted with shops, and the Boardman Team and Team Carbon look good value.

I've sized it for him (he'll get a small), but he's a bit concerned about handlebar height when he starts out.

What's the story with the Boardmans? Can you ask them to leave a decent amount of steerer and spacers in, or does it just come however they like? How many spacers is normal on these bikes?

Anyone know what the stem length is on the small? Couldn't see it in the brochure anywhere.

I've read in a few threads that the Boardmans have stock issues, but I guess that's the same with anything right now.

Under normal circumstances I'd direct such questions at the shop, but you know...
