    Hi folks,

I've been working for my father since 2003 but I don't get a wage. Too long a story to get into but he simply can't afford to pay me on a weekly basis so I had no choice but to claim the dole since the aforementioned date.

Quitting my job isn't an option as he is in poor health and can't do it himself (that's why I started, I took over from him).

I hate being under the scrutiny of the department of social welfare. Are there any other claims available to me? I have no problem being taxed a few quid on a state benefit either.

    Carers allowance?
You're not entitled to JSB or JSA- as you are not actively seeking employment- nor available to undertake it, were you able to find alternate employment.

You may be allowed to means tested mortgage assistance, or some other benefits- but you are not entitled to claim the dole.
