    Hi,
can anyone recommend a good week long cycling tour of the Alps or Pyrenees? Nothing too hardcore but challenging enough to come back a better cyclist? (usually finish 100 k in 4 hours)

I'm gonna try and do this before the year is out.

I did a tour that included the Pyrenees last September... bear in mind it is quite hilly.

Heading here in 2 weeks, missing the tdf stage by 4 days but should still be good

Once you have done the alps and you are planning your next trip, I would highly recommend a trip to the western isles of scotland. I am just back from cycling the outer hebrides and it was amazing. Cycle south to north. Get the ferry from Oban to Barra, a little gem of an Island. Cycle Eriskay , south usit, north uist, Harris, Lewis and then get the ferry back to the Isle of Skye. Most of the Islands are linked by causeway so its easy to cycle from one to the next. Its one of the best cycling holidays I have done.

I went touring in the Highlands of Scotland last year and, although it was truly beautiful and really great fun, the weather was poxy for a good chunk of it. There were moments when, struggling to even see ahead of me in the pi*sings of rain, I asked myself why I took time out of work to do this!

Should add that a few of us are heading to central Europe in September to do a section of the route along the Danube. I imagine the weather will be far more clement than Scotland was. Even if it rains, at least it will be warm.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. If you’re trying to avoid rain, I’d try Jordan. Cycled across it last year, beautiful coastal roads along the Dead Sea and a nice mountain range for any of you Polkas who like a good roastin!
