If it was top notch and well priced people would travel both sides of the border. Check out what is regarded as a good standard, just google rehersal studio ireland etc and get a feel for whats out there.. places worth mentioning will have a list of their own gear

Id also check out your competition in Blackrock (in dundalk)...theres supposed to be a place out there

oh n a couple of tips

    Have Daylight in it

go above the rate an average teenage band would pay for so that you can maintain really good equipment and that will result in waay more reliable customers..

I worked in a rehersal space a few years ago and that was the biggest thing i noticed

hey thanks for the response, the blackrock place is meant to be a dive, owner has it for sale at the moment,

and theres another really bad spot in town that i used to use where the owner doesnt even bother to show up and let you in half the time!lol

hence why i want to start a decent one, i have most of the gear in storage until i find a premises, for now im just curious about the demand and stuff so thanks man!

The "lock up" is the best/only? room I know of in town, 20 an hour and free recording, great standard and relaxed. Stiff competition :P

I've always judged rehearsal spaces in two categories:

    1. You have a bunch of public rooms with average-quality equipment on-site for anyone to use. Bands pay an hourly rate.

    2. You have a private space with one or more 'resident' bands. Most of the equipment belongs to them, and is kept in secure storage on-site. Bands pay a monthly rate.

If you're in a band that rehearses regularly, and has a bit of spare cash, the latter always seems like a good option. However, Dundalk doesn't retain that many people in the 24-35 age bracket, so I suspect that your target market will consist mainly of teenagers and students. For this reason, I would imagine that your best return-on-investment would be achieved by making the venue as cheap and accessible as possible. Nonetheless, without another source of revenue, I doubt that you could make a living off this kind of venture. Most similar places in Dublin seem to be struggling to get-by, and there's a much bigger market down there.

Best of luck with the idea though - It'd be nice, if it gets off the ground.

the "lock-up", is that the one on the castletown road? its my inspiration for wanting to do this! Its bloody awful, sub-standard gear, shoddy old building, difficult to access, also trying to locate the owners to get in has been a huge problem for me and all the bands i know! lol

excellent lads, thanks for the feedback, if anyone knows any bands interested comment away, have to try and survey the demand :-)

Can't really agree with that dude, lots of teenagers yes but not too many student bands in town, that would use that sorta thing regularly from my knowledge. Your main market would be older than that.
