Why is there a race track painted on the playing field? (i.e. cricket/soccer pitch).

Because it is also used by the athletics club for racing.

Do they meet up during the summer?

I think they paint it usually around the exam period or just before since there are races on the grass close to this. Not sure if they meet during the summer.

Was always the club I joined but never really got into. Ah well.

It's been painted about twice since then, I know that as fact.

Seeing as most athletics is done in the summer I assume they're still meeting up. I know rowing only just stopped training and competitions, and the rifle club is doing summer training for any squad members interested in doing it, as well as competitions.
