The coast guard was alerted to the incident at around 8.20pm this evening.
The coast guard helicopter is involved in the operation and the Clogherhead lifeboat is expected to join them shortly.
On the shore, the Clogherhead coast guard unit and Drogheda coast guard unit are helping with the search.

I heard this on the radio around midnight. They said that the search had been called off as the pilot is safe and well. Apparently, a local saw a plane low and he thought it was going to crash so raised the alarm. But it said that the plane landed safely.

I was wondering was this an emergency landing in a field or was it planned?
