when asked at the open what changes he would make if given the chance, here are the 3 changes he would make.....from the official open website

1 roll the golf ball back 10%.......it goes too far

2 get rid of square grooves ........as they are next jan for pro's

3 reduce the size of driver head from 460cc to maybe 240cc-260cc

interesting on the driver head size the other 2 are always mentioned, what you think?

I agree with him. Smaller driver would take a lot of getting used to again.
I'd love to go back to the days of the Big Bertha drivers and Titleist Professional golf balls.
Those drivers seemed huge and they were only 190cc I think

    He speaks alot of sense.
    I'd cap drivers at 300cc .
The new heads are a joke ,they are so big,the sweetspots are huge.
I was looking at the original 90's model Burner and comparing it to the 2009 model,it must be 1/4 the size ,its slightly bigger than a golf ball.
The art of good hitting is dying out ,some pro's cant even hit 3 or 4 irons well.

I actually disagree with most of what he’s saying. I’m all for technology in golf. Anything that can help me get a few extra yards, stop the ball that bit more quickly, or help me to find how far I am from the pin is welcome. Pro’s have this ability through their talent and their caddies, something us amateurs are generally not blessed with.

While technology has made the game easier for professionals, it has also had the same effect on amateurs. I believe that one of the main reasons golf as a hobby/sport has become so popular in the last decade or more is because it has become easier to hit shots such as drivers. Bigger drivers means it’s easier to hit the ball straight with arguably the most difficult club to hit well. Smaller drivers means new players will rarely hit a decent shot with a driver, won’t get the distance required to score, and as a result won’t enjoy their round as much. More popularity has resulted in cheaper green fees, many options for membership, and generally made it easier to get a game.

All of his suggestions seem to be around the professional game, but they would also affect the amateur game and I believe it would be in a negative way.
