    Hey all,

I am planning on running the Dublin Marathon this year. It will be my second time having run it about 4 years ago. I was wondering if any of you know any good books on running a marathon. Something with information on diet, training, fitness, tips, etc. Any help really.. My time last year was 4.52 and I want to improve well on that.

    Are there any outstanding ones?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

A very subjective question really as everyone will have a favourite or one that worked for them. Advanced Marathoning (I think thats what its called) by Hal Higdon is pretty good if unspectacular. Covers all the bases and the training plans are comprehensive, but they are also available freely on the web on halhigdon.com.

Correction: That book is Marathon: The ultimate training guide.

Are you thinking of Advanced Marathoning by Pete Pfitzinger?

Dont be put off by the title. It contains a lot of practical advice.

I'd completely agree , thats a great book - its been my marathon bible for the past couple of years now . However you need to know that it is aimed more at people who are running for a time target rather than just to get around and the lowest mileage training schedule peaks at 55 miles per week.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Advanced Marathoning book? I have looked online in Easons and Hughes but no luck..

If you're lucky you should be able to pick up a copy in either waterstones or hodges figgis, thats assuming you're in Dublin. Online, amazon will have it.

Yep, in Dublin. Might try waterstones. Where is hodges figgis?

Across the road from Waterstones, in Dawson Street.

I bought mine online with amazon. It's second hand and was only £8.75 (plus p&p) but is literally like new.

I found Marathoning for Mortals pretty good. Very informal and relaxed tone. You might be able to pick it up in Hodges & Figgis or Waterstones

As already said, everyone on this forum would probably have a different answer!

One that I don't think I've ever seen mentioned on here Run Strong I really like this book and just picked it up again recently.
