I'm looking for a sales vehicle for my signage business, something that will look good on the road, when enhanced with vehicle graphics. My budget is about €6000 max.

A local garage has a ML 320 Petrol Mercedes Jeep for sale online for 10k.
    Year 1999 Mileage 100,000 miles

I had it out on a test for a long weekend, and it does exactly (at present petrol prices) 150 miles per €30 spend. It was a class drive, very comfortable, mint condition etc... The petrol expense was the only thing that turned me off.

When I returned it after the test, it was offered to me for €8000. That was about 6 weeks ago.
Last week it was offered to me for €6000....salesman said there's €2k petrol money for you.....now I'm tempted. I reckon €5000 would secure it.

    Would you?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The worst car Mercedes-Benz has ever produced :)

But you like it and it is within your budget. If I were you I'd run a mile and buy a better car I would offer him €4k take it or leave it (and prepare yourself for a nightmare ownership :D)

i wouldnt if you plan on doing a lot of mileage in it,
what mpg is that? 3.2 in petrol just sounds thirsty!

just looking online it says the diesel only gets 22mpg:eek:

Why not get a panel van....a "canvas" to display your wares eg. something like this? I'd reckon that would be more eye-catching?

Is there not an issue with using a petrol vehicle for business. I think you can claim the VAT off diesel but not petrol. That woud make it a crazy purchase tbh. Im not sure of this though

In your case I would go for the G-Class Mercedes-Benz. It is better looking, better built car, better off-roader, and catches more attention. I am just not sure if you can get a good one within that budget.

Have same van (Trafic) already... looking for a second vehicle. I want a 'fitting van' and a 'sales' vehicle.

    P.S Nice signage on van

Landcruiser is what you want. Tons for sale, infinately better.

VAT is an issue on petrol - you can't claim it back iirc.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Was actually thinking about this also.

Any suggestions on where to look/browse?

Best bet is the Classic Cars section.

There was a V8 Moggie Traveller that I saw at a car show some years back and the owner also had a Ford Popular (?) tubbed hot rod van......an awesome promotional vehicle.

A petrol ML? The economics wouldn't stack up if you got it for nothing.

Either way its similar to AIDS, you'll never get rid of it...

    Seriously, I'd pass.

+1, In fact i'd be wary of associating my business with any large SUV. Says all the wrong things, IMO.

    +2

Don't know how a 10 year old, gas guzzler is going to enhance your business..
if its only a sales vehicle, why not use a small van like the transit connect??? much better advertising options...

I wouldn't touch a new one let alone a 10 year old one. Not one of MB's better efforts to be honest. I would rank a Renault Lagune with a family of mice living in the wiring loom as a better prospect:pac:

I'd go for something like this:

And if you want a Jeep:
