Its about my JOB. I know this may anger some of you who dont have a job or cant find one so Im sorry BUT Im really really upset bout my job. For the last 2 years Ive struggled to like it. Somedays im in tears cause of it.
I hate the customers because they are so rude and horrible and dont enjoy the work at all. They are now making us complete exams, which ive tried but failed twice, or Ill loose my job in one year. I never went to college full time. I dont know what I want to do with my life even. Im hard working and happy to just do work but Im soo sooo MISERABLE.
I have looked into every possible career Id like from beauty to veterinary nursing to childcare, all of which Id like but would mean going back to college full time. Im 27 and worked for the last 8 years. My family know Im unhappy but they just do know what to tell me.

Should I keep looking for a job, go back to college if I know what Id like or bite my lip very very hard and try to study for exams. I already feel like a failure at my job and work and feel the best thing is to leave? Please, need your opinions if youve read all my thread.
    From Sad and Distraut girl.

Thats the problem, Im not sure. Im so afraid of making the wrong decision and regreting it after. I know exactly what I dont want to do. I guess, its always been children or animals. Like being helpful and caring. Not used to agro from customers at all. What do you think? My family think I should stay in job im in. But im so unhappy and have been for the last 2 years.

Can you survive without the cash coming in? Do you have a mortgage, kids etc? If not then have a good think about why your still there......its very hard to get a job at the moment, but there are jobs out there.
Could you afford to go back to college? I went back and did my masters and have never looked back.

You could work and study at the same time. Do a part time course in something you enjoy. You could also do distance learning to study. There are lots of options out there for you to choose from with out having to go back to full time study.

I worked in a crappy job that I hated. I quit and went back to college full time to do a Degree at 23. I done one year full time then got a job and changed to the part time version of the course. I have now finished and have a Degree and have a job I like :) I was never good at studying, failed my leaving cert. After working in a job you hate it really gives you some perspective and makes you study :)

Your family know you are unhappy, and they want you to stay that way?

Hellooooooo - why would you even think about listening to their advice when they clearly care so little for you!

Get yourself some professional career counselling. Find something you want to do, and then figure out how to do it. Yes it will be difficult. Yes, finding work is a challenge at the moment. But yes, it will be harder the older you get. And 27 is not at all too old to start out in a new direction.

It may help to do this in stages. For instance, if you decided that you want to work with very young children, find some volunteer work related to this. (Having the volunteer work to look forward to may even make the day job more bearable.) See if you can find any low-paid/low-quals work in the industry. Then see if you can find study to do at the same time.

Don't be filling her mind with rubbish... Twisting it around as if her family do not care...

Her parents are damn right, to state otherwise would be rediculous. Happy or not, the main thing is you have an income. It is not the right time to change your job. Really.

Do keep looking, but it is going to be difficult to find a secure job now. Do change your job, by all means, but with 420+ thousand people out of work, can you afford to take the risk?

Justmary is talking as if it was this time two years ago. People are dying to work now. There is so much competition that you can expect a lot less pay, working conditions, etc etc.

You are still young ;) So don't worry about that.

why dont you study at night?

i have just passed my last exams while working full-time

either that or just get your finger out and start applying for new jobs, there is work out there but you have to be persistant and keep at it.

sitting around whinging isnt going to change the situation.

get out there and start applying for jobs :):)

If you're not sure what you want to do then why not try a few short courses in things. There are lots of courses that run at night for 5 or 6 weeks. Try a few different things that you think you might be interested in to get a feel for the area. Then you could look at comitting yourself to a longer course that might get you a qualification.

You hate your job and it is making you unhappy...leave it.

There are no other jobs around so go back to college. It is a very good time to be thinking about this. Since you have never been to college, you are automatically entitled to a grant which will pay the college fees. You might even be entitled to a maintenance grant which is money in your pocket. Look at the Back to Education Allowance too. It will not be easy but it sounds like your best bet. I'm 27 too and absolutely HATED TO THE MAX my job so I decided to go back to college this year and once you make the move, you'll never look back! But keep in mind, it will require a bit of a lifestyle change regarding money etc. Bring on September!

Don't worry and weigh your options for whats better for you...not for anyone else.
    :D
