I am planning to spend time in the North and don't want to pay roaming charges for data on my iphone but I do want to access my emails etc. I followed the instructions on this forum to unlock my phone from O2.ie . Can I get a free UK sim and then pay for data on it?

There's always some sort of free SIM offers for UK networks. You could buy one on eBay or something or just buy one in a shop when you arrive though. They don't cost much more than here.

Yes, most will probaby allow you data addons. Would suggest looking at Vodafone.co.uk, O2.co.uk VirginMobile.co.uk, T-Mobile.co.uk etc

Thanks for that. Do feel a bit pathetic to be so dependant on Internet but sometimes even more useful when not at home
