There seems to be a demand for "formal" information on Boards Online Book Club, the club that was started here a week ago.

    Book Selection:
    • We will have two books per month. One 'modern' book (last 30-50 years) and one 'old' book (anything else), so as to accommodate most reading tastes.
    • One* user nominates 6 books - 3 modern and 3 old. Everyone then votes on these nominated books and one modern and one old book is selected based on vote tallys.
    • Voting is done on a public multiple choice basis, so you get to vote for one modern and one old.

    Reading
We then have until the first Saturday of the next month to read. Although you can discuss the books before this, its generally better if everyone discusses the books at the same time.

In general the Book Depository seems to be the cheapest place to buy books, but shopping around is advisable.

*it was kind of agreed to have the intial que of nominators to be based the order of posting in this thread, so TedB for September then lemon_sherbert and then yours truly, but I dont think its that totalitarian. If youve good nominations, shout!

    August 2009
The books chosen for August are:
    • Death and the Penguin - Andrey Kurkov (modern)
    • Dead Souls - Nicolai Gogol (old)

    Happy reading :)
