    Hi,

This is a very open ended question, and the answer probably involves pieces of string, but....

If rennovating old buildings what building regs do you have to meet?

We have an old house on the farm and we're doing looking at the feasibility of restoring it as a holiday cottage, but it wont really be viable if the current building regs have to be met.

The building in question is stone walled and steel roofed. it's done time as a chicken shed in the last 20 years but has definite potential.

    How does this work?

You must comply with ALL building regulations . Structure , fire , energy etc etc

You may be particularly concerned about insulation levels ? - the regs are not as stringent for alterations as they are for new builds + extensions .

You need an architectural technician to see the building and expand on this .

There may be areas in which you can look for a dispensation. Check with your local building control dept.
