Ive just sent this letter to www.getcover.com Does anyone know where to get travel Insurance without these clauses.

    Dear sir/madam

I have a few queries about the standard cover?

    Does it cover swine-flu?

"If You are admitted into hospital abroad You must contact the Assistance Company immediately. If You do not, this could mean that We will not provide cover or We will reduce the amount We pay for medical expenses"

Does this mean if I'm knocked unconscious and in a coma for a few days that your company can refuse cover because they weren't contacted??

"In the event of any illness, injury, accident or hospitalization involving anyone insured under this policy where the anticipated costs are like to exceed €450 You must notify the Assistance Company. They will direct You to an appropriate medical facility and may be able to guarantee costs on Your behalf"

Where and what will this appropriate medical facility be??
If the illness/accident is serious are you proposing that I be moved from the hospital where I'm being treated and if so what is the maximum distance I will be moved??
    How will I be moved??
    Who will organize the movement??
Who will pay for the movement ??

"may be able to guarantee costs" So after I'm directed and moved to your appropriate medical facility I'm still not guaranteed cover.

I'm not trying to be smart but can I get insurance out on an insurance policy because there seems to be a higher probability of your policy not paying out than there is of me actually being in a serious accident.

Can you please clarify these conditions of payment as I don't feel covered in the case of a serious accident .

    Kind regards,

    Austin

Hehe very good. I doubt you'll get a genuine answer out of them, probably just some standard meaningless response instead.

I'm looking for worldwide travel insurance at the moment also. Theres quite a variation in the prices I've been quoted (E110 - 190 for six months).

The price is not the main factor for me though, its the chance of the Insurance Company paying out promptly and in full. After all there's no point in taking out insurance if the feckers wont honour it. I've heard countless numbers of stories of companies trying to avoid paying out on claims.

Does anyone know any insurers with a good reputation? When you made your claim did they respond as would be expected of them etc?

Yea same as myself I was firstly looking at the price but when I read the policy id rather pay the extra for one that dosent have holes all over it.

Insurance is suppost to put your mind at ease, whats the point of it if your going to be worring if your covered..
Like my head could be hanging off and id be trying to get through to my insurance company which probably isnt even 24hr to notify them .. Also keeping tabs on the bill tryn to make sure I dont go over 450e mark in a foreign currency..

Sorry sir could you please tell me how much this injection and the cast cost, the current exchange rate from bath to euro, and also could you point me in the direction of the nearist payphone my mobile has run out of battery.
Ehhhhh ok english, do you speak english lets start again...........................

Thats how much of a nightmare your in, if your luckily enough to be consious.

going through something very similiar myself, looking for 8 month back packer cover.. wide variations in quotes..
ace were 219, getcover 149 and usit (blue insurance i think) were 400+..
Is it worth going with Ace seeing that seem very reputable (ie Vivas use them as health insurance provider, as do AIB(not saying much!))?
its a bit of a minefield trawling through all the different packages, i think i prefer to actually talk to some operator to clarify things.. cant be sure there either really

I havent bought anything yet but the best police ive read was the AIB one and seen as its only for people in the republic of ireland its main objective and priority im guessing would be its people because they could in theory insure anyone(must be too much hassel) also a bad report in the irish media about them not paying out in a serious claim would definitly cause major damage.

It does say to contact them "after" a serious accident but not "immediatly" after also theres 30 days to put in a claim aswell.

Its the one i feel safest with and its not much more expensive for me.

Interesting...just the one my dad pointed at...will check this in detail tomorrow, but I reckon It may be my best chance.

I wouldnt trust Justcover.ie at all tbh, 2 years ago we called them enquiring about the Couples cover that they offered, We were both 18 and not living together (the requirements for the plan is that you are both 19 and living together). We asked is there any other plan we could go for.

The answer we got was- Just say on the application forum that your 19 and living together.

If we hadve gone ahead with this bonehead advice and heaven forbid something hadve happened to us while abroad then we wouldnt be covered for anything as they wouldve said we lied on the application form (as advised by the rep in Justcover.ie).

the best thing you can do is just not go with them.
