Buying a Ford Mondeo 2007

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a 2007 Ford Mondeo Zetec 1.6 Petrol privately - 49000km (similar enough to this http://www.cbg.ie/Car_Detail.aspx?ID=2892731), and am wondering what price to offer for it.

There's a few minor problems with it:
- boot doesn't close properly
- one of the boot rubber seals has come off
- small fist size dent on the front wing
- numerous minor scrapes on all 3 corners and on one of the doors


Most dealers have them from just under 15 to 17k.

I'm not so good at this thing so all help appreciated!

What would they get if trading in?

If it's under still (it may be) the boot and seal should be sorted for free. A bumper respray is about 300 a go (although they will probably do wings/bonnet etc to blend colour) and door respray wont be too cheap either. Maybe a SMART repair specialist could help out. Dent may be a dent doctor job or it may need some major work.

15k in good nick with warranty back-up from dealer (before cash discount) would translate to me at least to 11-12k for that particular one but all this is without seeing photos.

Sounds like that car had a bit of a hard life.

Yeah the last driver wasn't the greatest at the auld spatial relations/parking/reversing.

The boot not closing properly isn't due to the a crash or anything - just the locking mechanism is broken.

Apart from that its in pretty good nick.

How do you know that the boot lock wasn't damaged in a bang - it doesn't have to be a big bang either. Something like a metal bollard could do serious damage to a car, its only 3 or 4 feet high and can't be seen reversing a high back car like a Mondeo.
Check the central locking too.
Check in the boot for dampness, the damaged rubber seal would indicate to me that there was work done to the rear of the car. Look at the bolts on the hinges of the boot. Are they the exact same colour as the original paintwork?

Yeah I'm buying the car from work so I know its full history. Hasn't had any work done to it.

Two years old and all that damage, however minor it may seem, I wouldn't touch it.

If they were that careless about the car, it stands to reason they didn't look after it mechanically either.

a 1.6 mondeo? i wouldn't pay 1.7k for it. the engine's really underpowered for the size of the car, it'll drink petrol and pull like a sedated granny.
