Want to install a FTA system - should I get SKY instead and then cancel?

    HI,

I am considering getting a FTA system installed (no dish etc.. yet). The cost will be between €250/300 installed with a Freesat box. Or..would it be a better option to get SKY installed (€50 installation and €20.00 per month for 12 months) total cost €290. Then I would have SKY for 1 year, and after cancelling I have the Dish and Sky Box and can receive FTA?

Is this a good option or do nasty SKY take their box & dish back?

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    JP

Sky have every right to take it back - In practice, however they don't.

You will need to get RTE, TV3 etc by some other route

you Own the sky box and dish from day 1. they wont take it back.

you could get a local installer to put up a free to air one for less than €290.
so works out cheaper in the long run.

if you feel happy with a bit of diy have a look here

    Thanks folks,

I have an exisiting aerial for RTE etc.. so thats ok. Is the SKY box any good compared with a Freesat box such as Humax? Or is it not worth the bother of the SKY box and just go FTA from the get go.

i think fta from the start, unless you want the discovery channels, nat geo etc.

if you havent got them you wont miss them. :)

No, they dont. You own all the equipment from day 1 - you are tied into a 12 month contract, but after that its all yours :D

Why not get an Mvision HD PVR receiver installed with an aerial and a sat dish, that way you get all the Irish chennels and the full UK freesat package and if you scan the aerial first you get RTE1 on 1, RTE2 on 2 etc etc and with the PVR function you can record one channels and watch another and its HD from day one with no monthly fees, its a no brainer really
