Which CPU - AMD or Intel?

Have decided to go with an Acer Aspire - either 6530 or 6930 series.

As far as I can make out the main (& only?) difference in the 2 models is the CPU/graphics set up. The 6530 has AMD Turion X2, with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics and the 6930 has Intel Core 2 Duo with Nvidia GeForce.

So which should I choose? Is there any benefit of one over the other or it is just down to personal preference

not exactly sure what "flavours" you were looking at but there's a few more differences. check out the comparison chart here.

Not sure if these help or sway your decision but thought it was worth sharing! :)

Thanks for that. Was looking at that website last night but couldn't get the comparison to work.

I see there is a difference in the cache memory & bus speed - I think this is probably a significant fact but admit I don't really understand why. :o

Intel one is considerably faster, and runs cooler. It also has a better video card, though it has a smaller hard drive and less ram - though unless you were really heavily multi-tasking you'd not notice any difference in terms of ram. Same for the video cards - unless you were playing new games you wouldn't see much difference, it would be minimal anyway. AMD one has a Blu-ray drive too, and finally, a better battery.

I'd still take the Intel probably - but in terms of day to day value, the AMD probably wins. For day to day use there's very little difference in terms of speed between the two, it'd only become apparent in demanding applications like games and professional apps.
