Old Sky mini dish with freesat box?

I have a sky mini dish on the side of the house from a previous subscription.

I inherited a freesat box from someone, and I have the two connected; with this I get most of the BBC/ITV channels along with Sky news and a whole bunch of garbage channels (shopping channels, etc).

My question is this; is there any way I can leverage this setup to also get the irish channels? I'm currently using an cheap rabbit ears aeriel to get regular RTE/TV3 etc, and switch between this and the freesat depending on what I want to watch (from av1 to av2 etc etc).

Also, if I did get all of this working, can I run the signal upstairs directly to another TV, or do I need another freesat box for the second TV?

    nope

you will have to put up an aerial to get rte, you may need 2 depending on where you live, (one for vhf and one for uhf)

you may be able to use a combo box for digital rte (this depends where you live)

    Thanks.

I'm in Dublin, whats involved in using a combo box? Or are you talking about subscribing to UPC, etc?

He means something like the Mvision HD200. This will give you BBC, ITV etc from your satellite dish and digital RTE etc from your aerial.

Aha, ok. So in my scenario, this would just be a replacement for the freeview box I already have - but I still need both the dish and the aerial, its just that I wouldn't have to switch between the inputs on the tv, correct?

Whats the advantage of getting something like this apart from having everything on the same input, which isn't really enough justification for spending 200 quid?
    :-)

all stations are on the same epg (electronic program guide)

you can record all channels, pause etc.

dont have to change input on the tv, crystal clear rte (through digital)

you can put the channels in what ever order you like.

Do the irish channels come in through the dish or through the aerial?

If the aerial signal is poor in the first place, how does this box fix that?

The Irish channels only via the Aerial.

If your Irish TV is poor you need an outdoor (or maybe loft) aerial.

I'd not invest €200 in a Combo box till Digital TV launches here.

Perfect, thanks all. Looks like the only thing I really need to do is get an outdoor aerial, everything is will stay as is.

    Cheers
