Bad Installer - Sky+

    Hi,

    I got my upgrade to Sky+ installed yesterday lunchtime;
I hadn't put the new sky card into the existing digibox as I was going to wait until the sky+ box was installed and powered up for 24hrs.
The installer swapped the box's no problem but he put the new sky card in straight away and when I asked shouldn't the sky+ box be powered up for 24hrs he said "dont mind that"

Now all I still seem to be getting is FTV channels and 101 is BBC1, 102 BBC2 etc and no sky+ functions.
I rang sky and they said the problem is the new card being put in to a box not powered up for 24hrs and they will send signals to it and it "should" be right in 24hrs.

Do you think it will come right or will I have to start ringing them and end up waiting for a replacement card?

Don't accept their tripe on sending signals, they're feckin trigger happy about shooting signals.

Save yourself time and just demand a new card.
Trust me, I'm speaking from experience the past 2 or 3 weeks.

I called Sky again and they sent more "signals" apparently the weather hasn't being helping either.
Im still on EPG from the UK with few channels (101 is BBC1, 102 BBC2 etc.) but was told first all the channels will come back, then sky+ functions and finally the channel line up will be as it was within yet another 24hrs.

Does this make sence to anybody or anyone's sky+ go through the same process when installed?

    Thanks.

Fairly sure it says "change straight away" on the letter that came with the new Sky card. And these update "signals" Sky send are not affected by the weather!

Also, you should restart the new Sky box if not already done.

The box will not accept the card if the box hasnt received the codes it requires and if would say this if the card was rejected, it has nothing to do with the installer it has to do with Sky's inability on activating the new cards rite. You should have used the new card in your old box first ....and then re-paired it with the sky + and the installer should have known this.....this would have activated the card immediately...

It can take sky upto 24hrs at present to do anything...but I have had to wait 3 to 4 days to get them to sort out the four rte channels...and to be honest am getting really miffed from it...

    As Steveon said.

I upgraded a customer yesterday. I activated their new card in their old box first, before plugging in the new Sky+ box, just to be safe.

I'd say your new Sky+ box didn't have the necessary software upgrade.

    Are you an employee?
You seem to speak just as scripted as their customer service.

You may as well be because I did as you suggested and they will not even entertain me until they give their signals 24hrs, even though they have done this twice now so its been 48hrs.

I tried to cancel this morning, just like I was when they gave me this upgrade offer and I will have to give written notice now to get out of sky+ even though Ive never even had it to start with, just the sky+ box and a defective new card.

These magical signals aren't going to do fu(k all really are they....?

48 hours is sweet feck all my friend, they'll blow ya off for another week or so

I asked for some form of compensation as I wasn't receiving the Irish channels for over 2 weeks and for the 3/4 days prior to getting the new card all I had was the free channels under the menu 'Other Channels'.

The customer service 'wan' said I wasn't entitled to anything as the Irish channels are 'free'. The 30 odd bucks I pay a month is for The Sky channels etc.....blah blah blah........
I tried to explain to her that even without a Sky subscription, I wouldn't be able to receive the Irish channels. She confused the shite outta me.

Just go through the menu to "New Installation" and click through that routine. It has to be connected to your phone line.

Did you try, Unplug the box, wait a min and plug it back in again? It fixed my SkyBox.

Try putting your old card into the box?

    Otherwise, maybe forced software update.

Why didn't you swap the card on the old box as soon as you got it....LIKE IT TELLS YOU.

No, you have not missed any software update or anything. It clearly states on the letter that your Sky box must be plugged on at the mains for 24 hours before installing your new viewing card. I don't know what can be done about this though. Probably worth a try to ring them and tell them what the installer said and so on.
