    Hi Guys,

I've been reading the boards and am looking for some advice..... I am on week 4 of training for the Dublin marathon in October (following Hal Higdons program).

I am looking for info on routes in and around waterford and perhaps some info on the type of routes they are (hilly, flat etc). This sat we are up to a 9 miler - and I am stuck for a route that we dont have to double up on ourselves and that isnt too challanging in the terrain side of things.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks ;)

If your training for the marathon in the waterford area then you won't go far wrong if you do your long runs in the woods in Portlaw. The tracks out there all have a decent finish and there's no cars to worry about.

There's a few different loops to do so increasing your mileage isn't an issue.

Be warned though that its all hills there, nothing too bad but plenty to get the lungs open all the same.

I've done 3 marathons, the first of which while living in Dublin, I did my long runs in the Phoenix park and the second two in Portlaw and found a huge positive difference over training in the Park

    Good luck with the training

waterford AC have groups running from the RSC and the woodlands hotel every week as far i know..check their website.
all are welcome, distances covered range from 5 to 10 miles at the moment but will increase as the weeks go by as there will be a lot of these groups training for dublin as well.
depending on where in waterford your running from ..the outer ring road is a good running spot as you can vary the length of your run by turning off at one of the many roundabouts.
also the tramore road will be getting very busy early on sunday morning in the next few weeks as people increase there LSR's

Or tramore itself is not a bad spot to run, and you can mix the terrain by doing some on the beach, there are hills if you like, or can avoid if you don't like.....if you park on the prom or up riverstown there are a few loops you can do and can vary the distance...or do what I do, head out the front door and get lost at least once a week even when I run in places that I am supposed to know!!
