Prior to this week's SmackDown, a promo was taped with Rey Mysterio & Dolph Ziggler. Rey talks about Ziggler's attack last week. Ziggler comes out and interrupts. Mysterio challenges him. Ziggler wants the match at Night of Champions for the Intercontinental Championship. Rey accepts. They brawl until finally Ziggler retreats. The crew prepares for SmackDown.

SmackDown opens with Jeff Hardy coming to the ring to address CM Punk's comments he made last week. Hardy claims that he'll win at Night of Champions. CM Punk comes out and interrupts. He calls Jeff a joke and asks him how many test and classes he failed in school. Jeff attacks Punk after he claims all of Jeff's fans will become a statistic.

    John Morrison b. CM Punk
Before the match a recap aired showing Punk's loss to Morrison last month. The match was pretty much back and forth throughout. Both men counter finishers. Morrison gets the win with the rollup. After the match, Punk refuses a friendly handshake.

Layla comes out in a Miami Heat Jersey and dances for the local fans. She is interrupted by Ricky Ortiz who cuts an anti-heat promo. He gives Layla a towel and she drops it.

    Kane b. R-Truth
Truth jumps off the top rope and catches a boot to the face. Kane win. After the match, Great Khali comes out. R-Truth hits the top rope dropkick. Kane flees through the crowd.

The Hart Dynasty b. Cryme Tyme & Eve Torres in a Mixed Tag Team Match
The Hart Dynasty gets the win when Natalya gets the pin on Eve.

Edge is interviewed on the screen. He says he'll do everything to get back in the ring. Chris Jericho interrupts the interview and calls Edge pathetic. He says he'll find a new partner for Night of Champion and will continue to reign. Jericho then refers to Edge as injury prone. The crowd is behind Edge.

Rey Mysterio & Jeff Hardy b. Chris Jericho & Dolph Ziggler via disqualification.
CM Punk is out to commentate. Jeff tries to throw Jericho into Punk. Punk tosses Jericho to Jeff. The referee calls for the bell. Ziggler lays the referee out on the outside. Jeff gets the Codebreaker. Punk walks to the back as Jeff is in Wall of Jericho. Jericho & Ziggler raise their hands as they exit.

    Superstars Results Spoilers
    Brie Bella b. Katie Lea
Brie's sister Nikki helps her get the win with the rollup pin.

Cryme Tyme w/Eve b. The Hart Dynasty
The Hart Dynasty works on Shad's leg throughout the match. JTG gets the hot tag to pickup the win via pinfall.

    Big Show defeated Kofi Kingston

The beginnings of turn for Edge so?

Smackdown looks very good again. Are they not belittling the title by having Punk to lose to JoMo again?

Well, Morrison apparantly gets a shot at the title after Night of Champions, so presumably Punk will win and him and Morrison will fued. Punk will probably use his eye injury as an excuse as to why he lost to Morrison.

Only reason I can see behind it.

They've never booked Punk as a stong champion and rightly so. Both his title wins came via Money In the Bank wins over weakened opponents. Previously to thathe had been an upper mid carder with an average win-loss record. Just because he's champion doesn't make him superman. Its actually good, realistic booking. Making him seem vulnerable as champion, means people will think hes about to lose the title every time he defends it. Then when he finds some screwy way to hang onto it, it gets him over even more strongly as a heel.

Its certainly more interesting than the Superman booking of Cena and HHH that the internet has whined about for years.

I wonder if there was any mention of R-Truths supposed alternate identity Pretty Ricky. Saw that promo last week. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Ron Killings as R-Truth is really good and doesn't need something like this. He just needs to be slowly built up and put in a good fued. Another case of WWE going for the "He's mentally f*cked" route to build a character up

Agreed. Killings could be huge if they just used him right. Great look, really good talker and a unique and innovative moveset. Kids love the rap gimmick as well.

Exactly. For some reason, I was really excited about R-Truth. And I never watch TNA so I only really knew him as K-Kwik. But the vignettes hyping him, his first match, his repore with the crowd... he was sh*t hot the first time I saw him. But since Vince didn't want him selling moves in his first match or some sh*t like that, now he's a guy with an alternate ego with large teeth and talks like a jackass.

I don't see how Vince doesn't realise that this guys merchandising alone could be huge.

I hope Edge is kept around still during his recovery his promos are awesome - cant wait for his feud with Jericho

Any chance Christian could be Jericho's partner?

I know both Ziggler and Christian are involved in other matches at NOC

Nah, ECW really needs decent faces right now, they can't afford to turn him heel, as apart from Christian, the only other face on the show is Dreamer.
ECW is way to stacked with heels right now.

Very good pops for Morrison especially post match. The crowd seemed pretty hot all night though but hopefully it's not a one off for Morrison.

I don’t know about Jo Mo’s overness at all sadly. Their has definitely been nights when you can see editing tricks have been used for him. Truth and Khali are just as over as him in my opinion.

How good is Punk these days? Giving him the air time is working out so well.

Also happy to see how good Ziggler, R Truth and Jo Mo were made to look this week.

The use of extra TV time for Pretty Ricky and Word up is a good way to add some fun to the show while getting R Truth, Shad and JTG some extra exposure. For me they feel like bigger starts as they are involved in a few parts of the show rather than on 5-10 minute block and forgotten about afterwards.

They giving many people extra exposure by having then involved in multiple parts of the show and it makes for a more enjoyable show.

I don't really think hes as over as he could or should be. They turned him face without any build up or explanation and threw away an obvious feud with Miz that could have gotten him over as a face, by putting them on different shows. In short, they never gave the audience any reason to care about him as a face, its to his credit hes getting cheered at all. Hes getting over slowly in spite of the shi*ty booking, but he'd be doing so much better if they made half and effort in creative.
