Things to do in North Galway

I see a few people asking about living in north county Galway and what is it like. Here are a few tips from locals.
Tuam- friendly pub scene with good music and good schools. Downside is it suffers from an undeserved bad reputation which keeps house prices down and has high out of work rate
Headford-close to lake and 20 mins from Galway nice town .Downside is loads of unlived in houses.
Corofin- Close to Galway and main road. Down side not much of a village nothing to do.
Milltown-nice village with 2 really good places to eat and lovely park-downside at least 30 mins from galway.
Dunmore- not a bad size town with its own character good pubs.
Downside- far from Galway and a little too rural no work at all locally.
Please add your own thoughts on where is best to live in north Galway.

Your plusses and minuses could equally apply to villages like Glenamaddy, Ballymoe, Williamstown, Clonberne, Kilconly, Barnaderg and Abbeyknockmoy. But is it a bad thing to live so far away from Galway city? Don't understand the purpose of this thread. Of course there could be better facilities in all of these places and local communities in these areas are trying their damnedest to make life better for those who live there. Bit iffy about Dunmore though!

Just saw alot bof questions about various towns and was trying to tie them together and see what the views of others are. Stayed with Tuam area as that was where questions were about. The Galway city thing is about work as most people were working there but looking to live elsewhere. Yeah Dunmore got away lightly there is nothing to it at all worst of both worlds.

Moved to Headford just over a year ago from Dublin and would se it like this:

Very well serviced for a small town - 2 supermarkets/grocery stores, lots of take aways, hotel, barbers, solicitors, very large hardware store and garden center. More scenic lakeside spots than you can shake a stick at, friendly people with lots of young families (helps pull people together I think). Some great and some crap pubs, but the amount of big name music gigs in Campbells means overall it comes out on top.
Only downside is the roads are in tatters, but that's about the same all over these days.

In case not obvious from the above, I love the place!, but as an outsider with no pre-existing ties here that's based 100% on the merits of the place.

The streets of Headford were dug up on no fewer than three occasions between water, sewerage and gas. If there was any co-ordination between the bodies involved then this could have been done in the one job. No wonder the main street through the town is like a bomb hit it. You forgot to mention that Headford is over priced when it comes to houses.
