    Hi,

Have read good few posts here about cars failing NCT due to worn wishbone brushes and i am in the same boat now. Most people suggest to replace the whole wishbone, so I will probably do that.

What I would like to ask is about the cost, as it obviously varies on type of car etc. I have a 99 A3 and need to replace the following

    front suspension: Wishbones/wb Bushes
Rear Suspension System (55): Axle and Wishbone Bushes
Rear Suspension System (55): Axle and Wishbone Bushes

Anybody be able to give me any info on the work above?

    Cheers
    Co.

If it is the same rear axle as the golf it is a pissy enough job.

The modified bush on the golf is plastic and a 'squeeze' fit

The reasoning behind changing an entire suspension arm rather than just a bush is that by the time you have pressed out an old bush and pressed in a new one, you will have clocked up enough labour time to make it more expensive. This will be true at main dealer rates, for independents, it may be a close call as to which would cost more.

Also worth replacing aluminium wishbones as they have a tendancy to warp over time.

Surely there isnt an axle in the back of the A3 is there?
The NCT people will have marked the defective parts anyway.
You should possibly consider powerflex bushes. They are alittle more expensive to purchase but very easy to fit, will last longer and should sharpen up the car no end.

Cheers for the replies. Have a mechanic looking at it next week, said alright if its the back ones that they can be a struggle to replace.. will see what he says anyway when he gets a look..

    the joys of it!
