Valkyria Chronicles 2 has been announced... for PSP!

Magazine scans (Famitsu) can be found here. Looks like there are a few new characters, and the medic character is being developed. I'm not sure if this game covers a new conflict or just involves different characters during the same time period as Valkyria Chronicles. It's set for a 'winter release' in Japan.

Don't you hate it when my predictions come true, heh :p Now let's hope this one sells a bit better!

Yeah just saw this. A bit disappointed that it is not a PS3 release though. May habe to buy a PSP to play through it:)

A little disappointed but only because I hate that the PSP doesn't have a second analog which would make the game a whole lot better.

Other than that this is excellent news that one of the best new franchises is getting a sequel. Can't wait. Just hope it at least makes it to america, it didn't sell so well in the west but picked up a lot of sales in japan thanks to the excellent anime.

    Gggrrrrrrr

The original game is pretty much the only reason I wants a PS3 but I too have no interest in a PSP. Is that meant to be Selvaria in the bottom right?

And yeah the anime is quite awesome, damn sub of Episode 15 cant come fast enough :(

You got me all excited there but PSP? crap

At least the franchise is not going away, hope that this is only a precoursor to them developing a PS3 follow up

Come on Sega, you finally have something worth making and not more Sonic destroying crap

I agree, although for a different reason. Every time I play Valkyria Chronicles I watch the intro movie as I think the 'Canvas' engine is beautiful, it would be a shame to let it go to waste. With the success the PSP is having in Japan and the success of the anime I wonder if a third game will see release as well at some point in the future for PS360 as VC2 is only going to grow the fan base. Not too long to wait until release so I'm sure we'll get some more details soon enough.

Another thing I'm wondering about is the art style in the Famitsu artilce - it looks more like the anime than the original game style. I mean the character at the bottom right looks like Selvaria but she sure looks weird.

I really need to finish Valkyria Chronicles... I'm spending all my gaming time playing Persona 3 or watching the OH play Persona 4 though.

Persona 3 has completely taken over my life and I've still got P4 to play :'( at least it's great.

It was a kind of obvious move by sega to put it on the PSP. The PSP is doing really well in japan and one of the reasons for the poor sales of valkyria chronicles is that the PS3 really isn't doing very well in japan let alone any other territory. Bigger market means bigger sales.

    Bit more news on IGN

So its set after the first game, new cast of characters and mixing battlefield combat and the characters school life (the Persona games do the last bit dont they? Does it work well?)

Japan systems to be changing from a home console market to portable console market. The PSP outsells the PS3 by three times the amount. The DSi outsells the wii by double the amount.

This is probably due to how much Japanese people commute on trains and such. Also DSi has DQIX and PSP has MHP2G.

How great does this look? It really looks like it stays true to the first Valkyria Chronicles.

Apparently you play as the guy in the fourth picture, and can change his class as you see fit. I've also read that this game will allow you to play with a friend or an AI companion. Sounds like VC2 will be trying to get a piece of the huge MHF2G PSP audience pie.

This is what I'm worried about, what is this supposed to be?

Play with a friend or an AI companion?? Are they moving towards a more actiony slant, since the first pic shows the command points at the top so maybe there will be a bonus game where theres no turns and just free combat....dunno, I be just guessing here.

And is that first map broke into 4, not played all of VC1 but are there missions broken into areas, or just a way to make them manageable for the PSP??

Adhoc play has been mentioned on the VC2 blog (and in the last screenshot above you can see what I think is co-op mode), so I'm guessing that there will be a game mode separate or complimentary to the main storyline that you play co-op. I think that the command map in the first screenshot looks exactly as it does in VC1 though

I hadn't noticed that, yeah they must have missions broken up into smaller regions so that the PSP can handle larger scenarios that way.

I think your right, since it could just be a seperate game-mode like Single-Player and Multi-Player in most games. Plus in the pic you mention, the character has black hair and the other player is a female char while all the others feature the red haired main char. So you either pick from a select group of chars or create your own one.

And for more analysis of the new pics you posted (after watching the anime I am now slightly obsessed with VC at the moment, roll on monday):

-the second pic has him targeting one of his own characters with a new class symbol (looks a bit like a U ) so maybe a new class...medic maybe, perhaps a bit like the engineers repair tanks

-4th pic features what looks like scenarios or training missions, they have "free" "key" or "story" attached with grades (difficulty) and your rank in them (the S rank five places down). Plus its in a menu called "2 £%$&" (I dont speak Japenese....yet :pac: ) so it could be the amount of characters or units available.

-the Selvaria-alike looks different, maybe another Valkyria (thought they were meant to be almost extinct) and the weapon seems to be a whip....or really floppy lance!
