i have a 2g iphone in which i'd like to back up the sms messages that are stored on the phone.

the phone is jailbroken and unlocked running an O2 sim, but roaming on T-Mobile here in California (don't know if that information is relevant).

the iphone is running version 2.2 of the iphone OS.

tried looking on the app store but couldn't find anything.

i have about 5000+ messages i need to back up.

Can you backup the phone through iTunes? Don't know much about jailbreaking, but if you can, the backup function also includes sms mesages, so when you restore the phone looks exactly as it did when the backup was created, much like on a pc.

hmm, yeh a backup does do that, but the thing is i'm selling on the phone and won't be restoring the backup to another iphone.

If you have a Mac, you can try PhoneView: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

It lets you back messages up to your hard drive for viewing.
