Ok, I let my macbook slip and I grabbed for if with one hand, grabbed the screen and the pressure of my thumb on the screen cracked it.

    1. If I don't repair it will it do any other damage?
    2. Does anyone know a reliable place to buy a screen for macbook 13? (I'm considering trying to replace it my self )
    3. Has anyone done this before?

What do people advise? I've feck all money at the moment, unemployed so want to do the cheapest option really. But if necessary I'll go to an Apple authorised place :( probably cost me there €400ish??

I doubt if it would damage anything else if u don't repair ir (IMO)

You can buy screens here for lass than E100 - be super careful you get the right model with correct voltages, amps & all that good stuff. try to get them to supply the correct tools & guidance if possible- failing that, do your thorough research before you even pick up a screwdriver.

    goodluck with the change out.

it's not a nice repair. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. having done many mcbooks. I don't like doing them.

I just rang Charlie in Tyrell (authorized repair place) and they said it would cost €544 for the LCD and they charge €110 for labour. (btw they charge €110 labour as standard for anything)

He said leaving it cracked (on the inside) wouldn't necessarily do any further damage.

The screen model no: if any one else has this problem is 661-4579 13.3" lcd

I'm going to look for the part myself and think about it. I certainly can't afford that right now

Wow that sounds interesting. Something to look into. thanks

Just found the screen for mine on ebay, so I know it's possible to buy the LCD cheaper. Do you think if I bought the lcd would a authorised dealer just charge for labour?

Your thumb did that? And I thought the plastic screen on the white Macbook was supposed to be durable. It seems not.

    How old is the Macbook?

March '08. I know I've, and many others, have said before, I regret buying this build, just because of the many issues, this weak plastic outer casing, the top casing around the keyboard and now the screen.

( The logic board had to be replaced straight away also, just because the rj45 socket was out of line )

Next time I'll look for a tougher build

I'm not sure the unibody would be any better. If you let that fall the whole screen would shatter and you'd have a massive dent that would likely destroy internal components. Plastic is generally tougher, you were just very unlucky in this case.

I didn't realise that, I thought the aluminum body would be tougher and the whole build, but maybe you just meant the screen. It didn't actually hit the ground, it just slipped off my lap and I caught it (by the screen) just before it hit . Anyway..
