Normally I'm in work when this tripe is on, but i have a few days off and had the misfortune of catching a show today

    Alan Cantwell was UNBEARABLE

The new head of the USI Peter Mannion was on, he's studying botany

Cantwells first question. "What the hell... what are your doing that for and how long does it to take to study a flower?
Thats your contribution to society, looking at flowers?"

He then went on about studenty types at oxegen and asked if they were drinking and smoking pot

I wanted to smash the telly in. I'm not a student and was never in the USI but if you invite someone on you should at least be courteous

you can see the ignorance for yourself

i totally agree, he should stick to reading the news to which he barely qualifies.

He strikes me as a guy who watched other people doing hard interviews and figured that shouting and intimidating the interviewee was the way forward.

I sensed tension in the studio, as if the guests and co-presenters were internally cringing at everything he said.

He kind of makes the show interesting though I think. It'd be boring if it was all nicey nicey and they were licking the guests asses.
When he's not there - I find the show boring.

Ironic coming from a TV presenter, which I consider to possibly be the most useless profession in the world.

He is honestly one of the most obnoxious tv presenters I have ever come across. His arrogance is shocking, it seems as if the views of his guests have no place on the show if they do not match his own.

He comes across as arrogant and self righteous, not attractive traits in a presenter of a light entertainment mid morning show.

I actually can't stick him, he's so full of himself. Grrr!

www.rte.ie/player hope that provides you will all your flash needs :) They could get rid of the real player on the rest of the website alright.

Alan Cantwell suits daytime TV he could be Ireland's answer to Jeremy Kyle.

He is kind of joking! no? Light banter, I was expecting a full on Jeremy Kyle "what does your mother think" and "why are you doing this to your family"

Maybe it is my broadband but the picture is very jumpy, did they set it to 30fps?

He is abit of a ****ing rambler, they are giving him a pulpit. This could go into a discussion about College Fees.

And now that I have watch all of the show, it isn't "Humour" "Humour" Alan.

I went to school with Mannion, he was a bit of a bell end,
Now for the fee's, everyone should pay..I am currently a student getting no grant or other support, everyone should have to pay there share, an unpopular point but a true one

I think Alan just likes to stir things up.

Often, people on the panel just seem to be agreeing with each other - he's the voice of the arrogant opposition :P

To be honest, it doesn't seem to me like he actually believes half of what he's saying, he's just putting a contraversial point of view out there, challegening the panalists and trying to get some good conversation out of them.

Sure, he might go a bit far sometimes, but the show would most likely be lacking without his input!

You do get support, while you may not get the grant or "other" support the government are currently subsidizing your education unless you are going to a private college and it at the end of the day is your choice weather you go to a private college or not.

Do you or your family want to pay 30,000 for your college course? possibly more.

I have paid full college fees in the country for a post graduate course TBH it is difficult but it shouldn't be their for Undergraduates especially coming into a recessions when you may not get a job in Ireland out of your degree.

Allot of what was said was very uneducated banter on serious topics.

What degree do either Alan or Collette, they are being horrible to the poor chap about his college degree.

He will prob be a newsreader in a few years time, or perhaps presenting nature docs on TV3 haha.

Also the tax after college is a waste since we do not know our future, who is to know who is going to have 5 children and be a window at the age of 40 in 20 years time. ?????? Still paying off a student loan, unable to work full time, and putting their kids through life and education not just 3rd level.

I love the subliminal messages from the news reader haha NO TO FEES every edit.

It's an outrage that this could go out on a prestigeous television channel like TV3
