Can GP get away with this ?

My mothers GP has diagnosed her with vertigo. she had a dizzy spell after working too hard and missing some meals.

we read up the nhs procedure for checking this condition - check eye/ear. the gp did not do any examination, came to conclusion of vertigo and prescribed medicine.

I once atttended this gp(never again) with my wife and was appalled with his attitude. his surgery consisted of a bed and a desk with a PC - no medical instruments what so ever ,or any sign of books or medicines. this man looked more like a clerical worker.

Since then I learned of a case years back where he sent a boy home ,the boy was rushed to hospital with a serious condition shortly later (I dont remember the exact details of this case)

My question is what can I do to complain about this GP? (in dublin area)
I dont mean a court case, but just to voice my opinions. I feel angry and was thinking of going there with the procedure printed out and ask him why he didnt carry out an examination before forming an opinion and prescribing medicine which could very possibly be inappropriate.

I asked my mother to see different doc in surgery(she said she will). she cant move to another surgery as they are full ,not taking new patients.

Understand your anger. Can't offer medical advice but seriously if you're not happy get a second opinion.
Complaint's should initially be done through the practice ideally in writing , next stop medical council (very time consuming and lots of paperwork, and can end up in a public hearing)

If your wife continues to be dizzy, and I hope she doesn't, the link my signature is for a website with information and mutual support for dizziness sufferers.

I think the point is being missed.
If this was another industry, a non professional industry everyone would be up in arms saying contact the head office/management and get their ass fired!

The undying respect we have for our professions is really unhealthy and disturbing. Their should be more accountability and the ability to get your money back if you are not happy with the situation/not pay if the diagnosis was shoddy.

There should be random and secret inspections of professions for them to keep their medical/legal/accountancy license with the "patient" noting the course of treatment and steps taken/procedures followed or whatever.

    It's nonscense!

Robfowl has given good advice about how to complain. I'll now lock this before we go further into the OPs mother's condition. I have no problem if anyone wants to start a thread about regulation of doctors, btw.
