Dead man 'fell asleep in bin'

A man whose body was found among rubbish at a waste transfer site has been named by police.
Scott Williams was found dead at the Sussex Waste Recycling site in Newhaven, East Sussex, on Monday morning.

A post-mortem revealed he died of crush injuries, Sussex Police said.

The 35-year-old, from Wembley, north west London, was reported missing an hour after his body was found by a member of staff at the recycling tip.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said detectives are investigating how Mr Williams came to be among the rubbish, collected from wheelie bins around Brighton.

Police suspect he may have fallen asleep in a rubbish skip or wheelie bin while on a night out.

He had been out with a friend in Brighton on Saturday night and was seen in various pubs until around 1am on Sunday.

The spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating how he came to be there and are treating his death as unexplained rather than suspicious."

Staff at Sussex Waste Recycling were sent home for the day yesterday following the grisly discovery just after 7am.

Dave Ely, a director at the company, which trades as Rabbit on an industrial estate in the port town, said rubbish is taken on to the site by both its own vehicles and third party firms.

He said: "This particular dustcart was owned by a third party company which had tipped a load of black bin waste from the Brighton area.

"After it left, staff started looking through the waste and one of them saw what he thought was a body.

"At that point the police were alerted and that is as much as we know."

He added: "We have no idea when the vehicle collected the waste, whether it was over the weekend or some time last week."

Have you ever went for a snooze in a bin

Why does this sound like cops too afraid to investigate the truth?

"The victim then proceeded to shoot himself 7 times in the chest and 3 times in the back... This is a clear cut case of suicide"

I heard of a guy in Germany? that was beaten so badly during a festival he was unconscious. The perps then threw him into one of those huge bins on wheels.
A while later the bin truck came and unloaded the bin into itself to compact it (one of those that tip the rubbish in from the top).
This is apparently when the guy awoke but the operator had just started the compactor which was too noisy.
Some tourist or other came up to the operator to ask directions so the operator turned the noisy compactor off.
This is when they both heard the guy inside screaming for help...

The only info released about it was that he was 'crushed to death'. Even though the post-mortem was carried out, it can take several weeks in some cases for full toxicology reports to come back to the ME's office. I'd be interested in seeing if there was anything other than drink in his system.

You'd want to have some drink in you to think sleeping in a bin is a good idea.

So tempted to add recycling joke with M.J.

Anyways, poor chap would have had a better chance in a recycle bin.
