ABS & TC Fault

On the morning of my NCT test, two warning lights came on on my dash, turned off again within the hour, then turned on again and havent turned off since. They are the Traction Control & the ABS fault lights and the systems definitely are NOT working (i thought it might just be a sensor or something). Put the car through the NCT anyway, and it failed on these lights and a crack in the windscreen. The engineer said that a part of the rear suspension is causing this problem, but my mechanic cant see what this could be. Is this a BMW diagnostic job or does anyone know why the systems ahve turned off? Its a 1999 E36 318is btw

The ABS system switches itself off if there is a fault detected with the system. You need to get the root cause diagnosed and the fault sorted out, then the system will start working again...
