Name change with Ryanair

I booked a flight yesterday with ryanair and it took me a while as the system kept going down and I had to refresh the page a couple of times and re-enter the details. I finally booked it but when I checked the confirmation email I noticed that there was a problem with my surname. Instead of being, for example, John Finnan, it was John F. So only the first letter of my surname was recorded. I rang up ryanair to get it sorted but surprise surprise they want to charge me €100 to correct an obvious human error. How many people have 1 letter in their surname for god sake? A human error that was in part due to their continuosly crashing when I was trying to book.

My question is if I turn up at the airport with check-in details printed off as they currently are, with a one letter surname, will I be able to board the plane?

Your name usually appears in full on the boarding pass, surname first, so yours will just appear on the pass as John Finnian, instead of in the proper order.

They may not notice it when checking your boarding pass, but if they do, you won't be allowed to board.

Ultimate responsibility is with you to ensure the details you enter are correct, so while the error is human, you are that human. :) Par for the course with Ryanair and why it pays to take your time, even when the site or your ISP crashes.

Ring again - the next person you speak to may change it for free. Its worth a go if you are nice and try to explain they might let you away with it. I have called them before with a similar thing and they changed it for free for me.

I doubt if you could get on the flight - all depends on how quickly they want to board you as to how in depth they look at your boarding card. That would be a chance you would have to be willing to take. I would not take that chance.

If they wont change it free of charge then might be cheaper just to book again.
