Really, really oily hair - Help!

Okay, I have extremly oily hair. It's so annoying. I have to wash it every day but I don't 'cause that apparently makes it worse. I wash it every second day instead. But in the second day I have to clip my fringe back 'cause it's too greasy.

Right after washing and blowdrying my hair's lovely! It lasts for about a day and then it's quite oily. I have to put up with it the second day.

I use Sunsilk shampoo for ''hair that gets greasy too quickly''. It makes no difference. I sometimes use hairspray, I'd say once or twice a week. My hair's longer than shoulder length and dark (natural colour).

So you know practicly everything about my hair now, any suggestions what to do? Anyone with tips or similar problems?

    Thanks!

Sounds exactly like my hair! That sunsilk stuff is crap, never did a damn thing for me and the conditioner is even worse.

I know you're not supposed to wash it every day but tbh I do it anyway and it hasn't made it any worse. I've tried that whole washing it every second day thing and it didn't do anything for me and I couldn't cope with my head feeling so gross.

I use this shampoo and this conditioner. The shampoo is the best I've used and I've tried just about every shampoo for oily hair that I could find. So cheap too and I love it. Tbh half the time it keeps my hair presentable for a second day! And I just love the conditioner, smells awesome and leaves my hair nice and soft.

Thanks! I might buy that shampoo tomorrow. I've also noticed there's a huge lack in oily hair products. Most shampoos are for normal or dry hair...It's not fair!

Yeah I've found that too. And even then the oily hair ones just don't work!

I have found this stuff great though and it's less than 2 quid I think. I'm always raving about it on boards! I hope you find it good!

Yeah I'm gonna get it soon! And it's nice to know there's some people out there with similar hair issues!

When I first curled my hair with the GHD i used hair spray to keep the curls in and to my delight i found my hair didn't go greasy as quickly as usual.

So now when my hair is completely dry after washing it, I spray hair spray on it a few times. Seems to keep the grease off for a teeny bit longer anyway.

And when I had a fringe on the day after a hair wash, I would blast it with dry shampoo and it would leave it looking alright.

Have you tried using dry shampoo?

I find that a really deep cleansing shampoo helps first like tresemme, then the cheaper shampoos from Lidl seem to help as they dry the hair a little and don't have any of that nourishing stuff :P
I know for concerts/festivals my friends with greasy hair get a bit of flour/powder and rub it into there roots to reduce the grease. You can't see it and it will helps with the gross feeling the next day. I wouldn't recommend it for long as it can't be too great for your roots, but it works when it's needed :D

No, I've never tried dry shampoo. I was thinking about looking into it for the second day, y'know.

It's not my roots that get greasy, the back and all is fine for ages. It's mainly the fringe and the bit above my ears, and it's the whole way through the hair in those parts, not just the roots. Mainly the parts around my face.

I had the same problem, I'd wash my hair in the morning and it would be ok all day but then next morning it would be greasy so I had to wash it every day. Tried loads of stuff, started using bodyshop nettle oil balancing shampoo and conditioner a while ago and it's absolutelly brilliant. My hair looks fresh for at least two days now (depending on stiling). :)

Sounds like we have exactly the same hair tbh. I love my fringe and I hate having to clip it back on the stupid second day. I tried batiste dry shampoo and it was pretty crap... Although there are supposed to be much better ones out there, i've just never gotten around to them! I think there's a Lee Stafford(?) one or something that's supposed to be good.

I'm a bit obsessive about clean hair. Feel horrible all day without it!

Dimple, how much does the body shop shampoo cost? I might try it out...

I gave up on that years ago. Now I just have a shower every morning and wash my hair everyday. I just like having clean hair!

Some advice though...if you find that your fringe is getting greasy could it be because you have oily skin/make-up? My skin definitely used to make my fringe oily when I had one. So I let it grow out.

I touch mine incessantly. :) Force of habit. I have oily skin anyway but I can't do much at all about that!

Dry shampoo - Lee Stafford and Toni and Guy are really good!

And sometimes in Boots you get vouchers with 3euro off designer hair care so each bottle only costs about 4euro or less. I stock up then! :)

It's a bit pricy shampoo was about 10euro same with conditioner. It worked for me so I guess it's worth a try. :)

For those who mentioned skin, my skin's quite oily too. I don't get spots like most oily skinned people though (which I'm really thankfull for). I don't put makeup near my fringe though. I use very little makeup actualy, just a bit of powder foundation. A tiny bit. And I try to keep touching hair to a minimal. I really don't get why my hair's so greasy! I hate the second day!

I just wash my hair every day, one shampoo. I don't feel awake without a shower.

I used to have REALLY greasy hair and had to wash it every day, now I can go two days but I've only done that about three or four times in the last few years! My hair's in alright condition too. It's wavey though so it always looks messy, but it's very soft and I have no split ends.

One thing that helps if you HAVE to go two days is if you put talc or dry shampoo in when it's still fresh, and a bit more if it gets greasy.

    I have this problem too.

I find the T-Gel shampoo great.

I've started using the Aussie texturising and conditioning gel spray and find it really good. I've noticed my hair doesn't get greasy as quickly.

hey guys was in the body shop on henry street today and they have little bottles of the nettle shampoo so maybe they might be a better buy first to see if u like it think they were around 4euro

I used to have really oily hair when I was in my teens, I used to really like the Body Shop Ice Blue shampoo, I'm not sure if they still do it. I have pretty much the opposite problem now though, my hair is leaning towards dry, and it's not helped by washing it about 12 times a week!

It wont do any harm if you wash it everyday anyway, especially if your hair isn't coloured! I find the Batiste Dry shampoo (the one in the yellow container) quite good to freshen up hair when I haven't time to wash it but my hair is more on the dry side so I don't know if it would help you. Oh when buying shampoo stick to clear ones, anything creamy is too heavy! And you probably know this but only use conditioner on the very ends, I used to have quite greasy hair but now I've dyed it so often it's dry! Maybe you should get highlights lol..

I've exactly the same problem with my hair. I've oily hair and skin. I've washed every day for the past 14 years and I've even found it started looking greasy after about 12 hours. I decided to start washing every second day. I use Batiste on alternate days. Its quite hard not to wash my hair, but I put a hairband on if its looking particularly bad. I'm hoping that the greasiness eases off. I use Baby shampoo on my hair, as its pH neutral, which helps balance oil levels on my scalp and also, doesnt strip colour in my hair. I've found that shampoo for oily hair, like skin products for oily skin, are quite harsh, and used to strip the colour from my hair. Fingers crossed that this method will help me get to every third day!

It sounds nuts but my friend had the same problem until she dyed her hair (permanent colour). It made her hair drier so the oil didn't look as bad.

Yeah there's lots of truth in that, my hair is the same! Highlights work as well!

magenta has a point there- i throw a permanent in my hair every few months to dry it out

i find anything with tea tree or mint in it keeps my roots dry to just about get through the 2nd day...

i buy original source peppermint shampoo in boots i only use conditioner once a week and only put it in the ends. i find since i stopped using conditioner frequently helped.

Oh yeah this is true too, cos tea tree oil is a natural astringent. That's why it's used in so many skincare products- it can help with acne because it removes excess oil.

that used to be the exact same with me, id wash my hair in the morning and by the end of the day it'd be so greasy!! used to drive me mad! but now i only wash my hair every second day and i swear its not half as bad as it used to be!! :) i spray a bit of dry shampoo on it when it needs to and its grand! its the only thing id reccommend, none of those shampoos work i found them all useless!
try washing your hair every second day and using the dry shampoo, i never thought it would work until my friend convinced me. she used to be as bad as me and now she can get a good 3 days out of her hair after washing it!!!

Try baby powder! I sprinkle a fine layer onto my hands and work it thru the roots like as if I was shampooing. You can also put it on your hairbrush.
Boots dry shamoo is good. Try that too.
    :)
