Getting a door back (almost) to shape)...

The front door of my car was pulled last night in an attempt to steal it. They grabbed the top of the door, and peeled it back, so that it bent back at the window sill.

The top of the door was arm thickness away from it's normal position, but a collegue at work helped me get it back into reasonable shape, but there is still a small gap roughly in the middle-top of the window. Window goes up and down fine now, it didn't budge when it was still bent.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar before? Is there any chance it will ever get back to touching the seals again, or am I looking at getting another door?

Don't think you'll get it back 100%, but you might get it pretty close.

Happened to the girl friend's car last year. Got a pal to help bend it back.

Used a long piece of timber, solid 2x4 rolled down the window, friend

steaded the door, i applied pressure with the timber propped against

the bottom of the door and pulled the timber, small crease in the door.

Solid closing though, that or head to a scrapyard.

Thanks for the advice Muckie. I'll give it another go at the weekend using a lever of some sort like you suggested. I think I'll be looking for a new door ultimately though if I wanted to push it through another NCT (in 1.5 years), but if it's relatively sealed up, it'll keep me going until I find something suitable. Thankfully the door is closing and locking normally, and it doesn't look abnormal, so (probably) won't get stopped over it.

I noticed the front crease they made, just above the wing-mirror mount, has broken the seal around that mount, and it was looking wet under the seal of the window. I think I'll have to get the silicone out and try to stop the water getting in there (aren't our pissy summers great!). The door is probably on it's way to rotting from the inside out now because of these pricks.
