Basically I am 18 but I have no photo ID to prove it, Therefore I need a witness to prove it's me.

That sounds all grand but basically I have no idea who is to sign it?
Would a family member or friend over 18 be ok to sign it?

There should be a list of approved witnesses on the application form.

It usually includes people such as bank managers, local police, your parish priest...

    It can't be friend/family.

just go into your local garda station and they will be your witness, you need garda signatures anyway for passport application

Unfortunately they won't which I started a fight over because they claimed they wouldn't do it because they don't know me and I said well I don't know any bank managers or priests so what is the difference.

If anything a family member should be signing it. Stupid country.

That seems a bit strange, did you bring your birth cert? The Gardai generally need it to confirm who you are, if you don't have any other ID.

Of course but he is far away and works akward times..
I'll go in again with a birth cert and show it and ask will they be my witness.

    I hope it works.

Well, I suppose it is good not to be known by the Gardai!

I am sure if you went in accompanied by somebody that they would know and trust, the officer on duty would come to know you well enough.

A school principal is one of the listed people.
