    I've always wondered what it was. Heres a picture of it on a usb cable.

    Its a ferrite bead, for suppressing EM noise. Just sits around the cable and supposedly soaks up high-frequency interference. They're don't really do much, are just put there because of regulations.

    Nope, but I did think I had already seen that particular USB attachment for sale elsewhere.
