Illness Benefit ending, where to now?

    I have been on Illness benefit for about a year now due to an operation and during this time I have been made unemployed(nasty employer but thats another story).
    I have been told that I have not made enough PRSI payments and my benefit is due to run out.
    What do I do now, can I just go on the dole?

    Help please.

    If you are able to and available for work, you can apply for Jobseeker's Allowance. This is means tested.

    If you are still unable to work, you can apply for Disability Allowance. This is also means tested.

    Is my girlfriends income taken into consideration in the means test, I'm living with her and paying half the mortgage but the property is in her name so how will all this affect the means test? I also have no other means of income, I'm terrified of losing the little I am getting.

    If you're living with your girlfriend her income will be taken into account for the means test. That link I posted explains how.
