I was wondering if you could help me with my query. I am currently renting a house and I recently lost my job and I am on jobseekers benefit a few weeks now. My landlord will not allow the rental allowance to me. If I move house and a new landlord agrees to the allowance thing can I apply for it or how long do i have to be on the benefit or how does the whole thing work? How long does it take the allowance thing to go throguh once applied for?

I would go to the cwo but I dont want to get my current landlord in trouble as they obviously haven't declared tax on the house.:(

Your landlord not declaring tax on the house isn't your problem.

He is no better than someone defrauding the social welfare system: both situations are stealing undeserved money from the state.

In any case, you have to visit your community welfare officer to apply for rent allowance in any case, either with this place or a new one, so you may as well visit and ask him/her these questions.

    Good luck :)
