    Some Finglas postal services suspended

    Tuesday, 14 July 2009 10:02
Over 200 households in Finglas, Dublin, will be without post this morning after a postal worker was injured while on duty yesterday.
The postal worker was hit in the back with an air or pellet gun while delivering post in Cloonlara Drive, Finglas.
The man, who received a small wound and was bleeding slightly, made his way back to the base in Finglas. He was treated in hospital.

As a result, postal services have been suspended in Cloonlara Drive and Fairlawn Estate, after postmen said they would not deliver mail in the area.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened at around 2.15pm.

This will no doubt lead to some bad press for Airsoft as a sport when in reality it shouldn't, because Airsoft and Airsoft guns aren't the problem. Its the scumbags that misuse them thats the problem, but somehow I can't see people in authority viewing it that way

Sounds like an air gun rather than an airsoft gun, BBs shouldn't cause a small wound and bleeding through clothes unless they're over powered in which case they were illegal to begin with.

The IAA has been in contact with the Garda press office.

Obviously we condemn any misuse of Airsoft equipment, but we don't think this was an Airsoft gun, the description of the injury (skin broken, hospital visit) is inconsistent with one.

We'll post any updates we get.

AH is lumping Airsoft in with Pellet Guns and Air Rifles.
Can an IAA rep go and make one post as the collective voice of Airsoft, clearing up the confusion?

I've tried to put the muppets on AH straight but it was just met with the ignorant attitude that we can expect from the general public after the media has raked this muck up again.

Likely to cause more hassle than it's worth. This is AH we're talking about.

From the evidence given, this was an airgun and not an airsoft gun. Therefore the forum to discuss this is shooting and not airsoft.

By having this here you're just adding to the links/confusion between airguns and airsoft.

Cheers for trying to clear it up in AH anyway.

Thread closed until the reports indicate it was airsoft (If ever!)
