Where's the cheapest place to get Blu-ray movies

    Hey all

will have my new TV and blu-ray player in the next few days so now need to start building a collection, bit the bullet and went to HMV tonight and got the Dark Knight (€29.99) and The Day after tomorrow (€15.99) so I'd have something to work with other than upscalling DVD's the first night.

So my question is, where is the best place, cheapest/value etc to get bluray DVD's

Myfirst look was play.com but it annoys me know how much cheaper their sterling prices are, so it really isn't free delivery

Interentested to know where ye use, Cheers
    Hick

The Bargain Alerts forum often has good deals on Blu-ray's or you can use this site to look out for offers: http://www.cheapbluraymovies.co.uk/

I'd be against Play.com for the same reason you mentioned (sterling vs euro).

For regular Blu-ray shopping, try these sites:

    Amazon.co.uk
    HMV
    HMV
    Sendit.com

zavvi.co.uk (99p delivery) and asda-entertainment.co.uk (free) both have a good selection for in around the €10 mark

Of course there is no such thing as free delivery, if it was the same price and you were in the UK I expect you would get pissed off at being charged the same as Irish people, when it costs more to post to Ireland from Jersey. There are no volunteer postmen...

I would not boycott any shop for the sterling/euro pricing, they could still be cheapest. I just go with the cheapest and sometimes other reasons, e.g. needing it quickly.

To be honest, I wouldn't have a problem if Play.com advertised postage costs (other shops have no problem with doing it - 99p with TheHut, £2.50 with HMV).

But Play.com advertise "free delivery" but force Irish customers to use their sterling rate. You can say it's cost of postage.. but the more expensive the item, the more you lose on conversation.

For example: Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series (Blu-ray) is £114.99 (which converted is roughly €134 - €135) yet Play.com force you pay in their euro rate which is €149.49.

That's €15 more in fairness.. must be using expensive delivery methods!

I would prefer a whole range of options, www.dvdpacific.com have a few options. I would like to be able to get a few items and avail of discounted postage since they are in one package, most places do not offer combined packages.

Their poor exchange rate is probably set to cover the average cost on a typical low price item. e.g. a £8 item might cover additional postage costs.

So yes you might see a big difference on an expensive boxset, however if that boxset is still the cheapest place I could buy it, I would. It would be biting off your nose to spite your face otherwise.

It is sort of like ryanair, if they did charge everybody postage openly then the cheaper items might end up costing more.
