Aer Lingus new Transatlantic baggage allowance questions

    Just a quick question,

Due to fly to Orlando at the end of the month and I notice Aer Lingus have recently changed their baggage allowance limits on North America flights. I booked my flight back in March so am I allowed the 36kg limit between two check in peices of luggage? and not the new 23kg allowance?

I read the site but I'm a little confused. I was about to email them but I figured I would probably get a quicker response here!

    ta in advance!

If you booked in March, you can have the old allowance.

quick off topic tip if flying aerlingus....hope it still works.

if you want the first class seats RING up and ask can you sit in first class. you only get the seat,no other extras. i think it was about €60, but well worth it for extra space.
not sure if this still works...worth a try.

this only works on orlando route,as they dont have a first classs service, but still use the seats.

I didn't realise Aer Lingus had changed their baggage restrictions to the US until I saw this thread; on the 6th March I booked flights to New York for the end of November, do I have the new restrictions? could'nt see anything on their website. Thanks!

No - the new restrictions only came into place on the 1st of July.

So if you booked before the 1st of July, you get the old allowance :)

Applies to flights booked from 01 July for travel from 15 July '09

Effective 01 July Aer Lingus will introduce a new longhaul baggage policy for flights to or from the USA.
This new policy will apply to bookings made from 01 July for travel from 15 July.

New Baggage policy changes for Economy Class passengers include:

    * Passengers can still check-in 1 bag free of charge.
    * Baggage fees will apply for 2nd and subsequent checked bags.
    * Excess weight fee is charged for any bag over 23 kgs (50lbs).

I booked my flights ages ago so i presume this doesn't affect me. What were the baggage restrictions before this change? I can't seem to find them on the website

going to NY on sat, how much does it cost if you go over the 32kg weight allowance with aerlingus? can't seem to find it on their site

    edit: €9 per kilo?

the aerlingus site is confusing me a bit

i'm bringing one suitcase to NY, defo under 32kg so that should be ok

on my way back from ny to dub i'll prob have the suitcase plus another smaller bag, these two together cannot exceed 32kg or i'll have to pay an extra €40?

Aer Lingus only allow 23kg per person free of charge, not 32kg, and it has to be 1 bag, according to their website!

Oh right sorry, didn't realise those changes were only new!

As you booked before the changes, you can 2 bags that weigh up to 36 kg in total, but no individual bag can be heavier the 32kg.

Really though - unless you purchase half of New York, you shouldn't have more a 32kg bag! If you do go over 2 bags and/or the 36kg total the charges would be as follows:

    *Baggage weighing between 36kgs - 46kgs (80lbs - 100lbs) will be charged €40/$50.

    *Baggage weighing between 46kgs - 64kgs (100lbs - 140lbs) will be charged €80/$125.

*Any additional bag over the 2 free bags will be charged at €80/£60/$125 per bag.

You should see what some people check in as baggage.

The 2 of us used to bring home 4 large suitcases packed to the hilt and never a word was said.

It's easy to have a bag that weight. I've done it before on trips back and I didn't go super crazy with the shopping.

Booked my tickets in February, but did not record the baggage allowance info. Have 2 children travelling with me, do they get the 36kg allowance also? Would a credit card bill be enough to prove time of purchase, there is no time of booking info on the Booking Confirmation!? Just came across this website, very informative. Thanks

    They know when you booked.

there is no time of booking info on the Booking Confirmation!

The check-in agent doesn't give a damn what's on your booking confirmation. It's an e-ticket. Every piece of info about your booking which she needs is on the system!
