Car tax rip off?????

hi all,
hope you can help, i drive a vauxhall (opel)zafira 1.9 energy, i got my notor tax renewal form in the post to day, for 12 months road tax it is coming to 614 euro, i think this crazy, can anyone else tell me what they are paying for road tax on a car of the same size.

obviously on a car of the same size the road tax is the same price

unless its an 08 model where the co2 emmissions may push it into a lower tax band.

is this the first year you have had to tax it?
did you not check the tax rates before you bought the car?

If its not an 08 or newer, every 1.9 car pays the same. How much did you think it should be?

Road tax is based on cubic capcity so 1.9 is that much.
Unfortunately road tax in ireland is expensive!
If you bought it in 08 you could tax it on the lower the rate! (if the co2 emissons are low!)

Usually cars badged 1.9 are actually less than 1900cc, so would have a tax of €582. Your Zafira must be 1901 or more.

Spare a thought for those of us who have to pay €1566 per year:(

Was this not only for cars bought between Jan and Jun 08? And once your tax came up for renewal you could chose then if you wanted to go CO2 or cc based.

My car has a similar size engine, and I'm paying €614 a year! [/sarcasm]

1.9CDTi engine in the Fiat/Saab/Opels is 1910cc so takes it in to the 1901-2000 cc bracket. If it was 1900cc or under you could have saved a whopping €32 a year as it stands at the moment.

To be honest... Suck it up, both my cars have bigger engines than yours and I was well aware of what I'd be paying before I bought the cars!

These are costs that should be noted when purchasing a car and if you didn't do your homework then there's no point complaining about it.

Seems a clear case of lack of research on such things before buying the car, not a very good idea to just assume what things will cost
