Hi folks, I was just wondering was there a certain time limit between the date of an alleged offence and the date of a summons bieng served.

Eg, date of offence 1/1/09, summons delivered 13/7/09, summons date 22/6/09

    Thanks in advance.

I find it hard to believe that it is in order.Surely its not fair to leave somebody in limbo over something like that. Then again, have u ever seen a bigger ass than the law?????????

As Bond said, essentially it's 6 months to apply and 12 months from the date of application to serve it so it's fine.

Methinks there are devious, malicious basta*ds out there letting people think they have got away with something and then snaring them.Surely most summons could be executed within 6 weeks?

Nope. It could often take a few months to get directions from the DPP or Garda Superintendent.

I once received a summons 14/15 months after an alleged offence. It was a long time ago so can't remember definitively how long it was but it was well over a year as we thought we had gotten away with it :(

Had to come back from the USA for the damn thing also

LOL...spending a night in a cell certainly made sure we didn't do anything like it again...a bit of youthful high jinks gone wrong :D
