Great stuff. As has been said many times the sport at underage level is flying. After the standard at the schools, is it the greatest underage year ever? I can't think of one in my memory where so many great standards have been set.

20 National records in one weekend seems pretty incredible.

The weather wasnt great either on both days making it even more unreal.Standouts that i saw were Claire Mooney u18 300m,Ciara Giles Doran u15 250m hurdles,Thomas Houlihan u18 pole vault,Joseph Dowlings u17 400m and Edmond O Hallorans u18 110m hurdles.

Yes it was a great two days with some stand-out performances. Who was that Ferrybank girl who made the rest look like they were jogging in the 300mH?

Most of those records were set without the record-holders being put under pressure as well. I'd say the general standard was no more than OK - ropey in fact in a lot of the field events. So more credit to those who excelled.

From a Dublin viewpoint the lack of Dublin club singlets was pretty evident :(

But a very well organised meeting with good officiating and everything running pretty much to time. And a nice bonus for some young athletes to be able to see electronic measurement in action at one of the long jump pits.

The provisional results were up early this morning, so all in all great credit to AAI for this one.

No ferrybank girl won a 300m hurdles, the u17 300m hurdles was won by of Louise Harvey of Tir Chonaill and the u18 300m hurdles by Ailbhe Courtney of St Brendans. The u15 and u16 250m hurdles were won by Ferrybank girls Ciara Giles Doran and Megan Kiely.

As for the overall standard being ropey i would disagree. The record breakers didnt look under pressure because they are so good that they made very good athletes look average! In the exception of the usual few events i tought the overall standard was quiet high.

Must have been Ciara then - I just couldn't believe the gap she had created by the time she flew past me into the home straight.

Without examining the results closely it was simply my impression of the general standard. You may be right - as regards track in particular, but peronally I wouldn't be wanting to herald a new dawn just yet. Not knocking the young athletes either who gave it everything regardless of their standard.

Roll on the relays and combined events!
