Old slate - what type?

I will shortly be looking for salvaged slates for a roof repair job in Connemara.
Problem is I'm not so sure if they're Bangor slates or not, there seems to be two types of significantly different colour. The house is about 180 years old, but I don't know how many times the roof may have been repaired.

Tiles are approximately 36" wide and while some are a light grey, the other 50% are maroon, particularly when dry.

Anybody out there a boffin on old slate and quarry practices in the west?
    All help appreciated.
