Eye Creams - are they really needed?

I bought some new foundation recently and was advised by the salesperson that I should invest in eye cream as normal moisturiser is too heavy for the light skin around the eyes. I have noticed that some online sites say that a specific moisturiser for the eyes is not in fact needed, that its all just a sales ploy by cosmetic companies. However, I saw another post which said that if your moisturiser is too heavy it will stretch the skin and encourage wrinkles. Its all just very confusing and I was wondering does anyone know if eye creams are necessary or not?!

I do believe that it is needed because your skin is so delicate and a lot different to the rest of your face around the eye area. This hasn't stopped me lathering on an everyday moisturiser all over though :o

I just use everyday moisturiser (which is light enough).

I've read a "debunking" article stating that eye creams are just a sales ploy - they contain much less active ingredients (as not to risk irritation as some people are more sensitive there) but cost more for a much smaller pot.

Bottom line - if you're not allergic/sensitive, eye cream is a marketing trick.
