Caliper/brakes problem?

My '99 Nissan Almera is making an awful grinding noise when I lock the wheel to turn left or right, but mainly left.

Taking her into the garage tomorrow for some TLC but wondering if any of you know if it sounds like the caliper as the mechanic mentioned it was wearing in my last service, but said I could knock 6 months out of it, which I have.

But said mechanic is on two weeks hols (typical) so I've to bring it elsewhere as its beginning to worry me!

Its a loud, grinding like noise when I turn the steering wheel, mainly when I'm parking or turning corners.
I've also noticed a slight click when I release the brake!

    Any advices mateys?

If your caliper is stuck, you will usually notice that the wheel that it is attached to is often much hotter to touch than the other road wheel, due to the heat generated by the friction of the pads being stuck "on" due to the seized caliper.....

Cool, I'll check that out later. Thanks

Obviously you have to drive the car to allow this to happen, but if you are worried about your brakes, choose somewhere safe, etc. Also if you jack the car up and the caliper is stuck (you'll have to put the car into neutral), if you try rotating the wheel you should feel some stiffness when trying to rotate the wheel although this isn't always the case, or you will sometimes hear a metallic sound when turning the wheel which will be the brake pad with no metal on it rubbing off the brake disc. But this could also indicate an issue just with the brake pad, you could have this metallic noise and the caliper would be fine.

There is no substitute really OP for taking off the wheel and taking the caliper off and inspecting the travel of the piston that is in the caliper.
