It's a Toshiba Satellite laptop about a year old. Recently has started to simply not recognise when CD's are inserted.
I checked the settings and on a music CD I have tried setting to 'Import songs into itunes' and then I tried 'prompt me on what to do'. this will work once or twice then nothing after i change a cd.

It sounds like a fault but i wanted to be sure. id there a way to re-boot the cd rom to see if it that can help? I dont really want to re-format the whole laptop.

    thanks :)

it may be a faulty sensor

    or

the drivers might just need to be re-installed

    Good Luck

if you have the re-installation discs they would be good but not the windows disc

    or

the Toshiba website might have drivers on them but not too sure about that.

How do I re-install the driver?

    thanks

Open Device manager, locate optical drive, right click it, choose uninstall, reboot computer and default driver will automaticly install for it
