How about any off the broad sheet newspapers. Universities/IT's can be extremely hard to sell to. You'll have to go through their "board of procurment" 95% of the time. Found them very slow to make a decision but rewarding if you get the right one.

Do you mind me asking what area of business you are in or is it another case of my idea is so good I couldn't possibly tell anyone about it :)

You could always go thru the student unions or the people who own/run the shops and pubs on campus - any of the ITs/colleges i spent time at these seemed to be run independently from the university. The people who ran these shops/pubs and the student union in my time weren't the most scrupulous and i'm sure a brown envelop would work wonders (and extra quid back then would get you a bit of an upgrade on your bus ticket, they'd write it the destination in pencil instead of biro if you said keep the change!)

Different kettle of fish when your dealing with the college directly tho

I'm sure it's totall different now and there's nothing dodgy like that going on anymore

There is a principals magazine, perhaps that is something you can look into, also other teaching magazines, if you want to advertise?

I really don't see how contacting the schools directly, setting an appointments with the Principal would not work. At least ask to speak to the principal to get his feedback. They'll want to help in my opinion.

If the principles were savvy and maybe did a little background search prior to meeting you, maybe even a trawl on the boards and the like - your signature might, well, set a poor tone for a meeting!! :)

I know that the INTO have a magazine that they distribute to all their members.

That said though, although I am not selling to schools & Colleges, I have placed ads in Industry Magazines in the past and have got Zero response from them. Not a poor response.... Not a disappointing response... ZERO.

IMO, Your best bet is mail shotting the schools and then following up with a phone call trying to get a meeting with the person you want to sell to.

The Irish education system is underfunded. Particularly in the area of technology. Unless you are an established text book publisher (remember parents buy the text books and schools just recommend them) it's extremely difficult to build a business on the back of the Irish education system.

It may be a good idea to look at the UK where they have more centralised purchasing.

I can only give you NS related stuff

Intouch - Magazine of the INTO - Well read cover to cover
IPPN - Irish Primary Principals Network - Target Audience - So So
    Most other stuff is useless
Teachers love freebie's - pens etc etc

BOM's are a great target as they control budgets - try and address all correspondence to Chair of BOM and Priomh Oide

Also try and get the school name right - It's a pain seeing the name painfully mis-spelt

Hope this helps and best of Luck
